June 19th Town Hall on Racial Trauma and the Violent and Negligent Policing of Black Americans

One of the social justice events co-sponsored by NCDA

Many organizations, including the American Counseling Association (ACA) and its divisions are mobilizing to put forth resources, opportunities for connection, and steps towards concrete social action. In the hopes that everyone will come together and support one another and social justice efforts during this time, the following events are co-sponsored by NCDA:

Town Hall on Racial Trauma and the Violent and Negligent Policing of Black Americans – Friday, June 19th from 11am-1pm
In response to recent and continued police violence toward Black Americans, ACA is holding a Town Hall event to allow ACA chapters, divisions and members to share how they are addressing this violence, call one another to action and discuss how we can all advocate at the individual, community and larger societal levels, remember and celebrate Juneteenth, and hold an open forum for people to speak and be heard.

The following event took place on June 8th:

I Need A Minute: A Time for Collective Mourning –
Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd… Unfortunately, these are the most recent African American victims that have lost their lives by the hands of law enforcement or vigilantes for being Black in America. The global observation of this loss of life has and continues to have a significant impact on the mental health and physical health of all Americans witnessing these actions and responses. We invite all members of the counseling community to join us, during, “I Need A Minute: A Time for Collective Mourning” as we understand the need and purpose of a space for community and collective mourning as we continue the work of pursuing social justice.
