Certified Clinical Supervisor of Career Counseling (CCSCC)
-- a new professional credential to recognize the contributions of individuals who serve as clinical supervisors to career counselors and other practitioners who provide career services
What is the Certified Clinical Supervisor of Career Counseling credential?
This credential is intended for individuals who are trained for or experienced in the delivery of clinical supervision to career counselors and other practitioners who provide career services. It is aligned to the competencies addressed in NCDA’s Career Practitioner Supervision training as well as state requirements.
Who is eligible for the CCSCC?
The Credentialing Commission has revised the eligibility requirements for the Certified Clinical Supervisor of Career Counseling after a careful review. This revision came after receiving numerous inquiries from our members. Many members have dedicated many years to the supervision of career counselors and have met all criteria except for the required "university supervision course in the past 6 years." We wanted to recognize those supervisor applicants that have contributed many more years in their professional life to the supervision of career counselors.
CURRENT (Revised as of 3/21/18) Eligibility Requirements:
Individuals who have a master’s degree in counseling or a master’s degree in a related field are eligible, AND
- Individuals who have successfully completed the National Career Development Association’s 45 Hour Clinical Supervision Training
OR
- Individuals who have completed a 30 contact hour university course in clinical supervision at the graduate level
OR
- Individuals who have a minimum of 3 years (900 hours) of documented experience providing clinical supervision
Here are the eligibility requirements that were changed:
PAST Eligibility Requirements:
Individuals who have a master’s degree in counseling or a master’s degree in a related field are eligible, AND
- Individuals who have successfully completed the National Career Development Association’s 45 Hour Clinical Supervision Training
- OR
Individuals who have completed a 40 contact hour university course in clinical supervision within the past six years - OR
Individuals who have a minimum of 3 years (900 hours) of documented experience providing clinical supervision

If I have successfully completed the National Career Development Association 45 Hour Clinical Supervision Training, how can I obtain the credential?
You will upload a copy of your NCDA certificate of completion, register for and complete the online application and payment. NCDA staff will verify that you have completed the training and provide the credential.
If I have not successfully completed the National Career Development 45 Hour Clinical Supervision Training, how can I obtain the credential?
There are two other methods by which you can obtain the credential:
If you have taken a 30-contact hour university course in clinical supervision at the graduate level, you will register for and complete the online application and payment. You will submit a university transcript of the course, a transcript documenting the completion of a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling or other related field, a resume/vita documenting a minimum of five years’ experience in career counseling or delivery of career services, and a list of 20 professional development contact hours in career development and/or supervision completed within the last five years. The list should include workshop or presentation titles and providers. After your application is reviewed and verified as complete, you will be provided with directions on how to submit a 30 minute video of a supervisory session and your written self-evaluation of your behaviors in the video. A list of the criteria to be addressed in your self-evaluation will be provided.
If you have a minimum of three years (900 hours) experience providing clinical supervision, you will register for and complete the online application and payment. You will submit a transcript documenting the completion of a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling or other related field, letters from supervisors documenting a minimum of three years’ experience in supervision (approximately 900 hours), a resume/vita documenting a minimum of five years’ experience in career counseling or delivery of career services, and a list of 20 professional development contact hours in career development and/or supervision completed within the last five years. The list should include workshop or presentation titles and providers. After your application is reviewed and verified, you will be provided with directions to submit a 30 minute video of a supervisory session and your written self-evaluation of your behaviors in the video. A list of the criteria to be addressed in your self-evaluation will be provided.
What are the steps to apply for the CCSCC if I have successfully completed the 45 hour NCDA training in Career Practitioner Supervision?
The application is online and includes these steps:
- Contact & Demographic Information - Tell us how to reach you and give us demographic information that can be used for research purposes.
- Training Verification - The applicant must provide evidence of completion of training by uploading a copy of your training Certificate of Completion.
- Attestations - You will be asked to attest that your work is your own and that you have read the NCDA Code of Ethics and will abide by it. Click here to read the NCDA Code of Ethics 2015 now.
- Application Fee - The application fee is $175. Individuals whose applications are denied will not receive a refund. Fees are collected by PayPal.
- Verification by NCDA staff - NCDA staff will verify that all information has been completed and you have met the requirements. Your application will then be sent to a reviewer. Please note that due to the verification process, you will not immediately move forward to the next step in the application process. Remember, headquarters is open Monday-Thursday, 7am-5pm (central time). Thus, if you start the application process on a Thursday or Friday, you will not have access to the case studies until the following week.
- Certification - You will receive notice by email and your certificate will be included. The certification is valid for three years. To maintain the credential, you must pay an annual maintenance fee and recertify at the end of the three-year period.
What are the steps to apply if I have taken a 30 contact hour university course in clinical supervision?

Those who do not pass their first attempt (video and written self-evaluation), may submit a second video and evaluation within one month. If the second review of competency is also unsuccessful, the applicant must wait one year to reapply.
How do I keep my credential up-to-date?
Once awarded a credential, the certificant must pay an annual fee of $40.00. This certification will be in effect for a three (3) year period. The certificant must complete thirty (30) continuing education clock hours (CECH) in career development and/or clinical supervision by the end of this 3-year period (essentially 10 hours per year). During this 3-year period, you can use the Credential Holder Continuing Education Log to log your CECH. At the end of this period, you will be notified that it is time to renew and you should add any CECH you may need to your log. Recertification will be automatic if fees are paid annually and sufficient clock hours have been earned.

What do I need to know to use the application software?
Here are a few tips to help you through the online credential application process:
- The first step is to complete the NCDA form. Then you will be given a link to the credentialing application software to create an account.
- The process of applying for a credential has 2 major parts: complete the Application, then complete the Case Studies. You cannot see the second part until the Application has been completed and submitted. After submitting the Application, click again on the Application ID and you will see the Case Studies.
- Please note that due to the verification process, you will not immediately move forward to the next step in the application process. Remember, headquarters is open Monday-Thursday, 7am-5pm (central time). Thus, if you start the application process on a Thursday or Friday, you will not have access to the case studies until the following week.

Clicking on the Apply Now link will start your new NCDA Credentialing Application by completing an NCDA form. Once your information, including payment, has been completed, you will receive the link to continue the application process and upload the appropriate documents. When applying on that second link, you will be leaving the NCDA website and will be directed to create a new account within the new system. Your NCDA login will not work with the credentialing application system.
