NCDA’s Legislative Agenda and Plan for 2012-13:
Monitor legislation related to NCDA’s mission, keep NCDA members informed of the status of that legislation, and encourage appropriate action to support legislative authorization and appropriations. The following legislation is of interest to NCDA:

Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)

Carl D. Perkins Career and Technology Education Act (Perkins)

Workforce Investment Act (WIA)

Veterans Assistance and Transition Assistance legislation

Departments of Labor and Health and Human Services appropriations
The NCDA Government Relations Committee’s plan to achieve this agenda is summarized below.

Organize the Committee and establish communications and working relationships with the NCDA President Rich Feller, NCDA board liaison Pat Schwallie-Giddis, and legislative consultant, Advocacy Associates.

Encourage NCDA members to communicate with their elected representatives (a) to inform them of NCDA’s mission and century of professional service, and (b) to seek their support for legislation, appropriations and resources needed to continue that service.

Identity needed modifications of existing legislation and policies, and utilize NCDA’s communications to inform NCDA members of the status and action needed to support that legislation and those policies.

Strengthen communications and collaboration with associations and organizations with similar legislative and policy goals.

Communicate and collaborate with federal departments and agencies including the Departments of Education, Labor and Veterans Affairs on matters of interest to NCDA members.
