Welcome to the 2013 Conference

NCDA will host its Global Career Development Conference, July 8 - 10, 2013 by “Celebrating 100 Years of Career Development: Creating Hope, Social Justice, and Legacy”. It was through humble beginnings, where career development was born and began to thrive. We hope that you will join NCDA colleagues to share experiences from the past and to reflect on the next century of career development.

Boston, affectionately known as “America’s Walking City,” is home to the Boston Pops, the Boston Red Sox, and of course, is the birthplace of career development. Because it was the home for many of the founders of the National Vocational Guidance Association (the former name of NCDA) it is fitting that we return “home” to celebrate the association’s 100th anniversary.

The conference will highlight a series of memorable anniversary events, comprehensive professional development institutes, special tours, featured speakers, and rich learning experiences. Career counselors and specialists will share best practices and ideas, examine new programs and products, and have the opportunity to network with the leaders in the career development field.

We hope that all NCDA members will plan to explore Boston, by strolling the city’s sidewalks, wandering its abundance of green parks, or just people-watching at one of the many outdoor cafes. Pops enthusiasts should plan to arrive early and enjoy the Boston Pops when they ring in the holiday with the 4th of July celebration on the Charles River Esplanade. Shoppers will love Boston’s Faneuil Hall Marketplace and the high-end boutiques on Newbury Street. For sports fans, Fenway Park is a must when you’re in Massachusetts. The Westin Boston Waterfront, our conference hotel in Boston, is located in the artfully revitalized waterfront district. Just a short distance from Back Bay and the Financial District, is conveniently located to both new and historic attractions.

It is my sincere hope that this 2013 Celebration Conference is the largest, most festive in NCDA’s history. Whether you are part of NCDA's past, present, or future, we hope to see you in Boston!
